Canteen Ledger: Financial Clarity for College Canteen
My Approach I designed the Canteen Ledger to solve the "reconciliation gap" in fast-paced retail environments. Using React Native and Expo SQLite, I built an architecture that ensures 100% data integrity without requiring an active internet connection. My approach focused on creating a "Design-to-Data" pipeline, where a sleek, interactive mobile UI hides a sophisticated local relational database. By implementing strictly modular tables for Inward and Outward tracking, I engineered a tool that effortlessly scales across multi-counter ecosystems.
Vision and Innovation The vision was to move campus dining operations from chaotic paper ledgers to actionable Business Intelligence. Innovation here lies in the automated reconciliation logic—the app doesn't just record sales; it accurately tracks net balances by calculating the delta between GPay receipts, physical Cash, and actual Bank withdrawals in real time. By utilizing file-based routing with Expo Router, I created a seamless, fluid navigation experience that makes high-density data entry feel effortless and modern.
Identifying Unique Challenges Canteen operations face a unique "Data Velocity" problem: staff must record hundreds of micro-transactions (like Bakery, Stationery, and Printout sales) while rushing during peak lunch hours. I addressed this by designing a Single-Date Entry System that utilizes strict React state constraints to block accidental edits on historical date ranges, protecting data integrity. I also tackled "Operational Visibility" by building expanded category views that allow managers to deep-dive into individual line items without leaving the main dashboard.
Resolving Complex Problems The biggest pain point I resolved was the end-of-day manual reporting. I built a custom HTML-to-PDF Print Engine utilizing expo-print and expo-sharing. This engine dynamically queries the local SQLite database to generate professionally formatted "Inward" and "Outward" reports, complete with split-payment analysis and overall grand totals. It transforms a 30-minute manual accounting headache into a one-click process, providing managers with a print-ready, easily shareable audit trail instantly.
User-Centric Design I focused heavily on "Cognitive Ease" for the end-user. The UI utilizes a strict dark-mode dashboard (incorporating deep grays and neon accents) for high contrast in bright, chaotic kitchen environments. I implemented KeyboardAvoidingViews and optimized numeric pads to ensure data entry is fast and error-free on mobile devices. Every interaction, from the date-range trash-delete safety checks to the fluid UI transitions, was designed to keep the user feeling entirely in control of their financial data.

The Cashier: Needs a lightning-fast, crash-proof way to log multi-category income (Counter 1, Counter 2, Bakery) without relying on Wi-Fi.
The Accountant: Needs a clear view of the "Current Bank Balance" and the ability to track micro-expenses across categories like Kitchen, Staff, and EB (Electricity Board).
The Management: Needs the dynamic PDF Engine to verify exactly how much profit was made across different stalls and reconcile digital payments against cash-in-register.
